We Can Create A Ceremony For Any Important or Significant Event.

What follows here is a broad outline of the format for a naming or baptism ceremony. These events, and they truly are wonderful events, are created by yourselves with Pat And Ella. It can be turned into a nice booklet, or presented on a simple A4 sheet. Each person there might be given a copy as a keepsake of the day. There is also a simple scroll that is signed by Pat, the Parents and if applicable the Sponsors or God Parents. The ceremony can be the single event to name the child or indeed children. It may happen before, after or in place of a Christian or other denomination baptism. Its up to you what, if any conventional religious references will be included or excluded. We can create a ceremony for all significant life events.

Introduction

The introduction can be used to explain what will happen and the whole importance of naming the child. The marking of a special event in our life and the life of the community. Here we explain that three things will be affirmed.

• The personal identity of the child
• The ideals & humane aspirations, our hopes and wishes for the child.
• The bonds of the community, welcoming the child into the community.

The Two Parts of The Ceremony

Firstly the parents covenant with the child, and with the community to take on the special role of parent. Secondly then is the simple naming of the child.

Structure

The Shaman blesses the location and makes it a safe and sacred place for the wonderful event that is to take place. The parents and witnesses will be called forward and the guests are invited to make a semi circle around them. The parents are asked a few simple questions about their promises and pledges to the child. The child is named using Frankincense or not, its up to you. There is a blessing and a bidding. The bidding is done by the Shaman when he bids the Parents and God parents to look after the child. Then we can have an Angel blessing, or Christian reading. Sometimes other children will have poems they made and would like to recite. Its all very wonderful and limited only by the dignity of the occasion and our collective creativity.
